An accountant, in layman’s terms, often works with financial documents to ensure efficient and compliant business practices. You’ll compile, analyze, verify and prepare financial records for the organization. It’s a very lucrative career that comes with connotations of being a dull and boring work but these we perceive as exciting and challenging. You’ll get to look at how an organization functions and will allow you to understand business cultures as a whole.
WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT CAREER PATHS I CAN TAKE?
Being an accountant, you’ll have broad range of areas in which you can specialize. A career in accounting will offer you several options .There are a wide variety of accountants and it would be difficult to pigeonhole the industry in a single description. You may decide to specialize in Financial, Managerial or Cost accounting or even decide to be an expert at Tax and Government accounting. You may also pursue being an Assurance service provider. You may work internally at the Finance Department of a company or work as a third-party entity, ensuring companies follow industry regulations. Or who knows? You may also want to enter the academe and share your knowledge by being a professor.
WHAT SHOULD I DO TO BECOME AN ACCOUNTANT?
To start your journey at the accounting world, you will have to finish a Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy. Some organizations and businesses require being licensed so you may have to get those coveted letters added to your name by taking the Board Examination for Accountancy to be a CPA.
IS ACCOUNTANCY HARD?
Is Accountancy hard? To be honest, yes. But nothing worthy comes easy. If you decide to study Accountancy, you’ll learn practical skills about crunching numbers and analyzing costs that potential employers need. If you decide to pursue Accountancy, you’ll have a pretty solid idea of your career path and where it may take you.
